Counseling Mission Statement

What is the purpose of having counseling services? Perhaps the brochure, Elementary School Counseling from the Washington County School District says it best. "The purpose of the WCSD Elementary School Comprehensive Counseling and Guidance Program is to serve as partner with regular education and special education programs in creating a developmentally sound learning environment that promotes student achievement, high integrity, healthy self-worth and helps students gain the practical knowledge and life skills necessary to make choices that will maximize their potential and enable them to function harmoniously with others as responsible students and citizens."

This is my intent.

Sincerely,

Why Elementary Counselors?

(From the WCSD brochure, Elementary School Counseling Program.) "Elementary school counselors set the tone for developing the knowledge, attitudes and skill necessary for children to become healthy, competent, and confident learners. Through a comprehensive developmental school counseling program, counselors work as a team with the school staff, parents, and the community to create a caring climate and atmosphere. By providing education, prevention, early identification and intervention, school counselors can help all children to achieve academic success and their full potential. The professional elementary school counselor holds a master's degree and required state certification in school counseling. Maintaining certification includes on-going professional development to stay current with education reform and challenges facings today's students. Professional association membership enhances the school counselor's knowledge and effectiveness."
